Louise Soe, Ph.D. Professor Emerita Cal Poly Pomona
"Ms. Shasha was a speech therapist for my husband, who was afflicted with Parkinson’s disease. He was a retired professor and had much to say, not only about his field but about everyday happenings in the world. He knew several languages and had colleagues and friends around the
world. As his Parkinson’s progressed., he was very concerned about his ability to communicate in a way that people could understand him. His voice became softer and his sentences, which could be quite long, trailed off at the end so listeners had difficulty understanding him.
Ms. Shasha worked with him, giving him exercises to strengthen his voice and clarify his pronunciation. He was very diligent about practicing the exercises she gave him to do at home. As his voice improved, she discovered that reading speeches, such as those by Winston Churchill, allowed him to recover his “teaching voice” and communicate much more clearly. Ms. Shasta was very good at setting goals and tracking my husband’s progress at each session, for the benefit not only of motivating him but also prolonging payment by his medical
insurance.
Her motivation, methodology, and creativity, coupled with my husband’s
determination to improve, were instrumental in prolonging the time in which he could continue speaking and being understood. I am very grateful for the improvements she made in his life. She is an excellent speech therapist and someone you can trust to do excellent work."
